Della and Alfie... contemplating life, the state of the world, all the change in our life and most definitely breakfast! Happy Thursday💛
Each flower represents a member of a beautiful family... each different, each blooming in its own season, each growing at its own pace.... each adding its own unique beauty to this bouquet. Hoping to paint some more of these once we get settled!
As our closing date inches forward I’ve been spending some time wrapping up some neglected projects and making plans for a new series I hope to be able to offer soon! Self promotion is weird and kinda makes me queasy but I’m told to sell art it’s a necessity. So... here’s to trying new things, stepping way out of your comfort zone and signing your dang art for the first time!!! Happy almost Friday... not that it matters anymore 😘
“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well” Julian of Norwich Born November 8 1342 and died in 1416. Today is the day the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Julian of Norwich. She also has an Anglican feast day.... And while we are neither Catholic or Anglican today we will celebrate her life. This remarkable woman was an anchoress (yes I had to look that up and it’s really interesting!) during medieval times, and after falling seriously ill had a series of 16 visions that she recorded and revised over her lifetime. This famous quote of hers is from one of the visions... and it’s Jesus speaking to her telling her “all will be well”, I can’t think of a more fitting time in our lives to study this! In another vision God placed a hazelnut her hand and with it revealed 3 properties...1 that God made it, 2 that God loves it, and 3 that God keeps it. Another fitting lesson for “these unprecedented times” we are finding ourselves in. Her life was so interesting and she is credited with writing the earliest surviving book in the English language written by a woman... Revelations of Divine Love. While she was never given Sainthood, she is someone definitely worth studying and learning about. Today we will celebrate with hazelnut brownies and adding a little sketch of her church in Norfolk, England into our book of centuries. Look her up... and bonus... now you have an excuse to eat Nutella all day😘
I collect words like I collect flowers...sometimes I paint words never to be seen under my flowers... sometimes the flowers I paint are symbols to remind me of certain words I’ve collected. Lately the word rolling around in my head is HELIOTROPISM ... the scientific name for what plants do as they turn towards the sun. Facing the light has become a constant battle lately ... darkness seems to be all around us, but we were created to turn to the light. We are all heliotropic. We can obviously exist in the dark, but we thrive when we turn and seek the light... knowing that the darkness is temporary and fleeting. Morning will come, the sun will rise, and the flowers will turn to face it.
...May 1st 2020...This day was magic... hard and busy.... but so so magical! I want to remember all of it, the hours at the park with the dog and our Jupiter Bunny while the house was being shown, the rushing home to vacuum and straighten up before afternoon showings.... the news we had offers ... this was the day we sold our first home! Here’s to our next adventure! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
